The Balearics offers the
glorious sun, miles of beach, beautiful scenery and a vibrant nightlife. Take an excursion to the islands of Palma de
Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera and experience the splendour of these
unique areas.
The four
main islands that make up the Balearics are wonderfully diverse. Beneath the
towering mountains of Mallorca you’ll find dazzling whitewashed villas and fine
restaurants filled with friendly locals and celebrities, while Ibiza’s old town
is the place to head to join the bustling jet-set crowd in the early hours.
During the day, enjoy the tranquillity of the sea and the calm offshore
breezes and during the night, take pleasure in the music bars, discothèques,
and Spanish tapas at the local restaurant.
From Ibiza depart for the lovely island of Formentera to spend the day
snorkeling and swimming in quiet comfort. Return to Ibiza and plunge into a
night of its world-famous nightlife.
Enjoy Ibiza's many attractions: Charming churches, prehistoric wall-paintings
in the Ses Fontelles cave, an ancient Carthaginian temple in the Cueva de Es
Cuieram cave, and the exquisite turquoise waters of the Cala d'en Serra cove,
which is ideal for snorkeling, jet skiing or windsurfing among the dolphins.
Depart for Mallorca at the end of the day and stop by the islets off its south
coast, with their quiet anchorages and sandy beaches. The exclusive nature
preserve on the rugged island of Cabrera is beautiful by day or by night.
Old Palma de Mallorca is an intriguing mesh of gothic, Romanesque and Moorish
influences, including La
Seu Cathedral and several great palaces. The nearby resort
town Porto Cristo features excellent restaurants and shops as well as the
wonderful Coves del Drac (Dragon Caves) with their subterranean lake.
Mahon, the principal port of Menorca, will let you admire 18th-century British
buildings and the lovely Santa Maria church downtown.
The beautiful natural harbour of Sóller de Mallorca is surrounded by the
spectacular mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, whose foothills are covered
with lemon and orange groves. Art lovers may want to hire a car and visit the
Carthusian monastery of Valldemossa, where Sand, Chopin and Borges spent some
time.
Like most of the Mediterranean,
the Spanish Balearic Islands yacht chartering season generally runs from April
to the end of October. The summer season in July and August is the hottest and
tends to have lighter winds. This is also the high season as far as yacht
charter goes. Other good times to charter your yacht is generally on either of
the shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October), each side of the main
summer season, as the temperatures are still comfortable, and the onshore
tourists have yet to arrive in their largest numbers.
